Welcome to the Landesverband Berlin der Angehörigen psychisch erkrankter Menschen e.V., the Association of Friends and Family of People with Mental Illnesses in Berlin

We are very glad that you have found us! With more than 30 years of experience in working with people close to individuals with mental health issues in Berlin, we advise and support friends and family members of people in mental crises. When we say “friends and family”, this can include anyone in a close relationship with a person affected by a mental crisis.

We have time for you, your anxieties and worries, and offer a wide range of services that can provide considerable relief, such as personal contact on an equal footing, people supporting each other. Our network of members helps family, friends and other affected to develop resources for managing day-to-day life with people with mental health issues, based on the individual resources available. We share our experience to help friends and family handle their relationships with their relatives with mental health problems proactively, self-confidently and with a clear view of the needs and personal limits of those secondarily affected by another person’s mental health.

Our team also engages in political advocacy to support the diverse interests of relatives and friends of mentally ill people and is a voting member of the Berlin State Advisory Council on Mental Health. We see our role as that of an empathic partner and have set ourselves the goal of attaining sustainable improvements in the care system as a whole.
